Taking the stage for the first time in New Jersey in over a decade!
Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released after 19 years of unjust imprisonment to find nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe that Valjean can change his ways.
A winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, and sacrifice – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
WHO
We're looking for performers ages 16+ (with select roles for ages 6-10) to help bring this production to life! All roles are open to performers of all backgrounds and identities. We aim to cultivate a diverse and inclusive community both onstage and off. Some roles may be double cast.
WHERE
All rehearsals and performances will be held at JCC Metrowest: 760 Northfield Ave, West Orange, NJ.
WHAT TO PREPARE
Auditioners should prepare a brief song (1 minute or less) in the style of the show. Please bring clearly marked sheet music (in a binder) or our accompanist.

Monday, October 12 and Thursday, October 15
Callbacks:
Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18
Rehearsals:
Sundays-Thursdays beginning December 14
Not everyone will be called for every rehearsal and not everyone will be called for the full duration of each rehearsal. Some roles may be double cast.

Female Roles
FANTINE – Poor but beautiful and elegant factory girl, struggling to support her fatherless daughter. Later is a pauper, a prostitute, a consumptive and a ghost. Earthy and poignant. . She puts up a valiant fight against the horrors of her life. Vocal Range: F3-Eb5
MADAME THÉNARDIER – Tough, sharp, coarse, boorish, vulgar. Strong character comedienne role. Vocal Range: G#3-D5
EPONINE – Daughter of the Thénardiers but in no way behaves like them. Fired by an unrequited love for Marius. Gamine. Hasn’t learned to disguise her emotions; wears her heart on her sleeve. Vocal Range: F3-E5
COSETTE – Fantine’s daughter (first seen as and played by a child) delicate, elegant, vulnerable and beautiful. Falls in love with and later marries Marius. Vocal Range: Bb3-C6
ENSEMBLE – The Chain Gang, Warders, Constables, Peasants, Factory Workers, Prostitutes, Pimps, Students, Thénardier's Gang, Wedding Guests, and other various roles.
Children
YOUNG COSETTE – Fantine’s daughter and the Thénardiers’ ward. She has been forced into child labor. She is underfed, beaten by Madame Thénardier, and bullied by Eponine. Vocal Range: A3-C5
YOUNG EPONINE – Young Eponine is the pampered daughter of the Thénardiers who loves to taunt Cosette
GAVROCHE – Thénardier’s son. He is left to fend for himself and lives by his wits in the streets of Paris. His archenemy is Javert, the policeman. Gavroche is brave, witty, and arrogant. Vocal Range: B3-G5
ENSEMBLE – Peasants and other roles
Male Roles
JEAN VALJEAN – A poor peasant who rises to affluence, he has great natural nobility and dignity. A powerful figure, with a character of operatic size and passion. Vocal Range: G#2-B4
JAVERT – Policemen who relentlessly hunts Valjean. An imposing character. The ultimate ‘law and order’ figure. Obsessed, to the point of irrationality, with rigid and merciless moral code. Vocal Range: F2-G4
THÉNARDIER – Strong comic character role. A crooked innkeeper, later a petty, amoral thief. Greedy, irrerent, selfish, boorish, vulgar. Vocal Range; C2-G4
MARIUS – Member of the revolutionary student movement. Attractive and romantic but in a sensitive, 19th century ‘Byronic’ way. Vocal Range: A2-Ab4
ENJOLRAS – Handsome, charismatic political figure, leader of the revolutionary movement. Vocal Range: A2-G#4
STUDENTS OF THE ABC SOCIETY – Feuilly, Courfeyrac, Joly, Grantaire, Lesgles, Jean Prouvaire
